In the matter of the payments for a constitutional modification to “prevent”
similar-gender marriage and one other bill to supply a slim few of the benefits
and protections of marriage. Here
the place we are as mixed as any population on this planet we should set an instance
of Aloha. To see it revived here in
Hawaii is a sadness — here the place the racial preoccupations of so much of

thought to be a horrible step backward. All around the world, the place hatred and fear of one’s
neighbors has been allowed to create horrible misery and suffering there

marks so much of this debate.

These payments and amendments would diminish us all, deprive us of much that is
fine and loving. Here, within the land of Aloha and acceptance for all, we’ve got a small
